So I haven't been so well on the meditation lately. I've been distracted...but in a good way. My husband and I recently acquired a new "pride and joy," a Russian Mosin-Nagant 91/30. It's a beautiful rifle, and we've been busy cleaning off all the cosmoline that it's covered in. There are so many different ways put out there about cleaning cosmoline grease off a Mosin, but we used Simple Green on the metal bits by spraying them and scrubbing them, then soaking them in the stuff. That worked. For the stock, we used Murphy's Oil Soap and some good elbow grease. I don't know how well that gets all the cosmoline out, but it got it off, and right now that's all we're interested in. When we take the gun to the range, I'm sure as it's fired it will heat up and some grease will leak, so we'll take a rag to wipe off the grease. A lot of people will stick the stock in a black garbage bag in their car so it heats up and get the grease out that way, which is probably what we'll do if we have many cosmoline issues. But right now, it's just a beautiful rifle and we're both very excited to add it to our collection.
